The Oregon District

A historical gem in a bustling city.

Spanning 12 city blocks, the Oregon District is Dayton’s olden neighborhood and has undergone many revitalization efforts over the last 200 years.

What began as a bustling working class area, built up by Germans working on the construction of the Miami Canal, underwent a massive decline during the Great Flood of 1913 as well as a failed restoration attempt in the 1960s.

However, the 1970s found the area renamed the Oregon Historic District and the renaming, along with the construction of the expressway established Dayton’s oldest neighborhood as what it is today and created a solid foundation for revival and growth.
